Description
Easy homemade soft pretzels recipe with a golden crust and soft center, served with salsa verde cheese sauce.
Ingredients
1 ½ cups warm water
1 Tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 package active dry yeast
4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup melted butter
10 cups water
2/3 cups baking soda
1 egg yolk + water
Pretzel salt
2 tbsp butter (sauce)
2 tbsp flour
1 cup milk
1 cup cheddar cheese
1 packet Velveeta sauce
1/3 cup Salsa Verde
Salt to taste
Instructions
1. Activate yeast in warm water with sugar and salt
2. Mix in flour and butter, knead until smooth
3. Let dough rise until doubled (about 50 minutes)
4. Shape dough into pretzels
5. Boil in baking soda water for 30 seconds each
6. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle salt
7. Bake at 450°F for 12–14 minutes until golden brown
8. Prepare cheese sauce and serve warm
Notes
Use baking soda instead of lye for safety
Do not skip boiling step
Best served warm with cheese sauce
