This Monster Cupcakes Recipe is a fun, spooky, and colorful Halloween treat! Easy to make, kid-approved, and fully customizable for every party or fall celebration.
Ingredients
175g softened butter (unsalted preferred)
175g golden caster sugar
3 large eggs, room temperature
150g self-raising flour (or plain flour + 1½ tsp baking powder)
50g cocoa powder
1 level tsp baking powder
2 tbsp milk
2 tsp vanilla extract
100g softened butter (for buttercream)
225g icing sugar, sifted
1 tsp vanilla extract (for buttercream)
1 tbsp milk
Orange and green gel food coloring
Large and small edible candy eyes
Optional: chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, or sprinkles
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a 12-hole muffin tin with cupcake cases.
2. Cream butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
3. Gradually add whisked eggs, mixing well between additions.
4. Sift flour, cocoa, and baking powder into the bowl and fold until combined.
5. Stir in milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
6. Divide batter evenly into cases and bake 20-25 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack.
7. For buttercream: whisk butter until fluffy, add icing sugar gradually, then vanilla and milk until smooth.
8. Divide frosting, color with orange and green gel, and mix until vibrant.
9. Pipe swirls onto cooled cupcakes and decorate with candy eyes and extras.

Make ahead: Cupcakes can be made 2 days ahead. Frost before serving.
