Ingredients
1/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar (topping)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup melted butter
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease 9 muffin cups.
2. Beat shortening, sugar, and egg until smooth.
3. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg separately.
4. Combine dry ingredients with wet mixture alternately with milk.
5. Fill muffin cups two-thirds full.
6. Bake for 20–25 minutes until done.
7. Roll hot muffins in melted butter, then cinnamon sugar.
Notes
Use fresh nutmeg for best flavor.
Serve warm for best taste.
