Description

Flaky, buttery crust surrounds a warmly spiced apple filling in these easy apple pie bars—perfect for fall and crowd-friendly baking.


Ingredients

Scale

3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ tbsp sugar

1 ½ tsp table salt

3 sticks unsalted butter, cubed and chilled

¾ cup cold water

3 ½ to 4 pounds apples, chopped

Squeeze of lemon juice

to ¾ cup sugar

3 tbsp cornstarch

1 tsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp nutmeg

¼ tsp allspice

⅛ tsp salt

2 tbsp heavy cream or 1 egg + 1 tbsp water


Instructions

1. Make the crust by combining flour, sugar, salt, and butter.

2. Add cold water and mix until dough forms.

3. Divide into 2 parts, wrap and chill for 2 hours.

4. Peel and chop apples. Toss with lemon and sugar-spice mix.

5. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a sheet pan with parchment.

6. Roll bottom crust into pan and chill.

7. Pour apple mixture in. Add top crust.

8. Seal edges, vent top crust, and brush with cream or egg.

9. Bake 40–45 minutes until golden and bubbling.

10. Cool for at least 45 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.

Freeze wrapped bars for up to 3 months.

Great for holiday desserts and potlucks.
