Description
Chicken parmesan baked pasta is a comforting casserole made with tender chicken, pasta, marinara sauce, melted mozzarella, parmesan cheese and a crispy breadcrumb topping.
Ingredients
16 oz penne pasta
2 cups cooked chicken pieces or shredded chicken
4 cups marinara sauce
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese divided
1 cup parmesan cheese divided
Salt and pepper to taste
3 tablespoons butter
2 cloves garlic minced
1 cup panko bread crumbs
1/4 cup fresh basil optional
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Cook penne pasta according to package directions then drain.
3. Mix pasta with cooked chicken, marinara sauce, 1½ cups mozzarella and ½ cup parmesan.
4. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Melt butter in a skillet and cook garlic and breadcrumbs for 3–4 minutes.
6. Transfer pasta mixture to a greased 9×13 baking dish.
7. Top with remaining mozzarella cheese.
8. Mix remaining parmesan with breadcrumbs and sprinkle on top.
9. Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes.
10. Remove foil and bake another 5–10 minutes until golden brown.
11. Garnish with fresh basil and serve warm.
Notes
Rotisserie chicken works well for quick preparation.
Store leftovers in refrigerator up to 4 days.
Freeze casserole up to 2 months.
