Description
Buttery caramel crumb bars with a rich caramel center and golden crumb topping.
Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2/3 cup salted caramel sauce
Instructions
1. Add sugar to saucepan and melt until amber
2. Stir in butter carefully until combined
3. Add cream and whisk until smooth, then add salt and cool
4. Mix melted butter and sugar, then add flour, cornstarch, and salt
5. Press dough into pan and bake base for 20–25 minutes
6. Cool base, then spread caramel evenly
7. Mix remaining dough with brown sugar and crumble on top
8. Bake again for 25–30 minutes and cool completely before slicing
Notes
Cool completely before slicing for clean layers
Chill bars to speed up setting
Use a sharp knife for best results
